Starting a business as a Christian mom can feel overwhelming. Oh boy do I know it! You're juggling homeschooling or child-rearing, household responsibilities, and a strong desire to contribute financially to your family. Maybe you’re already working outside the home and everything feels like it’s just too much.

It’s easy to get discouraged when things don’t seem to be moving forward as quickly as you'd like. But here’s the thing: God’s timing is perfect, and He has a plan for your business.

Let’s take a moment to reflect on that and dive into some practical steps you can take this week to keep your momentum, even when things feel tough.

1. Start with Prayer and Reflection

Whenever you feel stuck, the first place to turn is to God. Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” Begin your week by bringing your business and your dreams to the Lord in prayer.

Schedule 10-15 minutes each day this week to spend in prayer.

  • Be intentional about asking God for guidance in your business decisions.
  • Pray specifically for clarity on your niche, your messaging, and how you can best serve your ideal clients.

Reflection is equally important.

  • Are there aspects of your business that need to align more closely with your values?
  • Have you allowed doubt or fear to take hold, slowing your progress?

2. Refocus on Your ‘Why’

When things aren’t moving forward as planned, it’s important to revisit the heart behind your business. Why did you start your business in the first place? Was it to spend more time with your children, to serve others, or to follow a passion God placed in your heart?

Write down your ‘why’ this week and post it where you can see it daily.

Keeping your purpose in front of you will remind you to keep pushing forward, even in the hard times. It can reignite your passion when you're tempted to give up.

3. Take Small, Manageable Steps

Sometimes, the reason we feel stuck is that the task in front of us seems too big to handle. Instead of focusing on the overwhelming idea of “building a business,” break it down into small, manageable tasks you can tackle each day.

Choose three small goals to accomplish this week.

For example:

  • Research potential niches if you haven’t settled on one yet.
  • Write or update your bio and tagline for social media.
  • Reach out to a mentor or someone in your community who has done what you’re trying to do.

Even small steps move you forward. Completing these bite-sized tasks will help you build momentum and create a sense of accomplishment. Remember, progress is still progress.

4. Surround Yourself with Encouraging Community

You don’t have to do this alone. Surrounding yourself with like-minded Christian women who understand the challenges you face can make all the difference. Seek out groups, either locally or online, where you can connect with other Christian Mamapreneurs. (Side note: If you're looking for a community of business- and ministry-minded women, check out the Digital Creators in Christ course and community.)

Find and join a supportive community of Christian business moms.

It’s okay if you’re an introvert. You can always find short, online meetings to check in with others. And extroverts? You desperately need community.

Look for Facebook groups, Christian business forums, or local Bible studies for women in business. Ask for prayer, advice, or encouragement when you need it. And don’t forget to lift others up in return—you might be an answer to someone else’s prayers.

5. Seek Out Role Models and Mentors

The Bible often speaks about the importance of wise counsel. Proverbs 15:22 reminds us, "Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed." Sometimes, the best thing you can do when you're feeling stuck is to learn from those who have already been where you are.

Follow a Christian entrepreneur whose journey inspires you. This could be someone on social media, a mentor from your church, or even a Christian business podcast host. Watch their content, listen to their advice, and pay attention to how they overcame similar struggles.

You might even reach out to a mentor in your life and ask if they’d be willing to guide you through some of the challenges you're facing. Don’t be afraid to ask for help!

But remember this: Following others can be encouraging, but it can also be tempting to look at what they have accomplished and feel bad about what you have achieved. Don’t let comparison steal your joy . . . and especially don’t compare someone else’s year of progress with your single week. God has a purpose for your business, specifically designed for your situation.

6. Trust God with Your Timeline

It’s easy to get caught up in the world's pace of success, feeling like if you're not moving fast enough, you're failing. But as a Christian business owner, you’re on God’s timeline, not the world's. The Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 3:1, "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens."

Give yourself grace this week. Remember that setbacks are part of the journey, not the end of it. If you don’t reach your goals this week, it's okay. Keep trusting that God is working behind the scenes. Take time to rest in His promises and recharge your spirit.

7. Keep Learning and Growing

Finally, stay curious and keep learning. There may be a reason your business hasn’t taken off yet, and that reason might be tied to skills or strategies that need refining. Learning new things or gaining fresh insight can propel you forward.

Invest time in education this week. Whether it's watching a business development video, reading a blog post, or taking an online course, dedicate at least 30 minutes to learning something new that will benefit your business. It might be a marketing strategy, a new social media tip, or ways to better serve your audience.

I’ve started several businesses now. I’m a bit of a scatterbrain at times and a huge overthinker, so it’s easy for me to get stuck in the weeds and find myself unable to move forward. Two things that have always helped are education and community.

When I was having trouble adding a faith component to my online business, I found the Digital Creators in Christ Course. It helped me learn the skills necessary to build my brand, automate, and market my business. But that wasn’t the best part. Weekly calls with other like-minded, encouraging, faith-filled business owners are GOLD!!

Keep Going, Mama!

If you’re feeling stuck right now, I want to encourage you: don’t give up. God has placed a calling on your heart, and He is faithful to complete the good work He began in you (Philippians 1:6).

Each step you take, no matter how small, brings you closer to the dream God has for your life. Trust in His timing, lean on your community, and keep learning and growing.

You’ve got this!
